4th of July

Kalisha, who never cares about being 'in style' decided she needed to have a red, white and blue shirt for the 4th of July. She started on this quest the night of the 3rd.
"I don't have any red, white and blue shirt to wear to the fireworks."
"Ok, well, how about the one with the swirly design on it?"
"That has a little hole in it."
"Can you just wear a plain red one?"
"No, it has to be red, white and blue."
"Really? Why?"
"Because they're the colors in the flag and I need one."
"Can we continue this discussion in the morning?"
"Yeah. I'll just check online now."
"Okay. You do that."

Sleep, sleep, sleep. Wake up.

"Hey Mom, I found one at Wal-Mart's website and it doesn't cost very much."
"Good morning, Kalisha."
"Do you think we could go and look at it?"
"Yes, but only because we have to go that way anyway."
"Okay. When?"
"After I have some coffee."
"You should get dressed, too."
"Yeah, probably."

She buys the shirt. It's blue with USA on the front. The fireworks don't start until 10:15, but by 7:30, she has had a shower, put her hair up with red, white and blue hair bands and is ready to go. She even painted her fingernails. Yes, painted them red, white and blue. With her small motor skills not being very good, I needed to clean around the edges, but she did amazingly well.

We went to the fireworks, and came back home. We all could have worn burlap bags and no one would have noticed, but for some unfathomable reason, Kalisha needed to be dressed up in red, white and blue. Good for her.
This picture was taken the next day and her hair wasn't up any longer, but I told her to show her fingernails and now she looks like she is saying the pledge of allegiance.
