Tabbie, Tabbie, Tabbie

Kalisha got a new kitten several months ago. She was a darling little kitten; sweet, cuddly, lovable, full of energy, etc. You will notice that the operative word in the preceding sentence is was. She continues to be cute and sweet, but she has more energy than any cat I have ever known and I have owned a gazillion cats in my lifetime. Granted, a lot of them from my childhood were outdoor, farm cats (Mom would never have allowed an animal in the house) and perhaps I didn't always see all of their antics. BUT, I have owned quite a few house cats, also, and none of them ever tore around like they were possessed!
I was worried about the dog (remember Iggy?) playing too rough and hurting her. Right! When they aren't wrestling and he wants to take a nap, she attacks him. She will make a flying leap from the back of a chair and land on his back.
Two weeks ago, Kalisha took her to be spayed. When she came out with Tabbie in her carrier and got in the car, she told me they wanted her to keep Tabbie quiet for the rest of the day and she probably would be pretty tired and docile for at least 24 hours. If the vet wanted that to happen, they should have given us some sedatives. She was moving like a whirling dervish the minute she was out of the carrier.
When my granddaughter was living here, she bought 2 beta fish (and a bowl, gravel, etc.) . She kept them in her bedroom. When she moved, she didn't want to take the fish. Of course, she didn't. I didn't want them either, but brought the bowl and fish downstairs. Tabbie thought they were a new gift just for her. I kept moving the bowl thinking I had found a place she couldn't reach. Not so. She actually had her head in the bowl. I guess she was going to nab one for lunch as it swam by. Luckily, someone came and took the fish.
We no longer need a flyswatter, we have Tabbie. If any fly is foolish enough to enter our house, he doesn't exit it alive. She will race after it until she has conquered. One such fly thought he would be safe in a very high window in the living room above the fireplace. Stupid fly! She launched herself off the back of a chair , onto the fireplace mantel and onto the windowsill, with really good agility. She only took out one candle and there are seven up there. She has a 4-foot vertical jump, straight up from the floor. Some NBA team should sign her.
The only living thing she hasn't conquered is our 14-year-old cat, Shadrack. He doesn't tolerate such antics. He doesn't even have to hiss at her, he just turns and looks at her and she leaves.
She is still a sweet, loving kitten. She and Kalisha have a mutual admiration society. Kalisha was so worried the day Tabbie was spayed. She asked 25 questions of the vet tech. before she would let her take Tabbie to the back. When Tabbie runs out of steam, she will curl up in Kalisha's lap and sleep for a long time.
She is recharging her batteries, I think.

  1. Shadrack does seem to be giving her the "evil eye" in that photo. Oh, to have such energy.

  3. Love this story. It makes me miss having a cat. Although, we did find out many years ago that having two energetic young cats is more than twice the "power surge" of just one. Those two chased each other a.l.l t.h.e. t.i.m.e. And not just on the floor -- the end tables had to be cleared of anything remotely breakable. It would have been entertaining to see how creative they could be in where their chases took them, if it hadn't threaten everything we owned! Okay. Re-telling that story kind of got me over wanting a cat again. But I still can enjoy yours from your posts about them! : )
